Soon after the Indiranagar
Sangeetha Sabha was established in 1986 with the objective of
promoting classical music and arranging music concerts, it also
started running music classes in Carnatic Vocal and Veena as
well as in 'Sugam Sangeeth' and Devaranamas. The idea was to
give structured education in classical music at affordable fees
to the younger genegration and besides giving an appreciation-cum-practice
course, to enable the interested students to take the examinations
conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board. The school
was also intended to help revive waning interest in classical
music among the public.
A matter of immense satisfaction
has been the response from the community around us towards the
running of our Music and Dance School which, from a modest beginning
with about thirty students in 2004, in 2007 has on its rolls
over 400 students! A number of dedicated teachers, who are performers
in their own right, constitute the faculty of the School.

The school curriculam has been augmented and a library is under
development. The disciplines in which
instruction is offered have been expanded and now cover:
Experienced teachers take
these classes on specified days of the week. The music and dance
school with a very reasonable fee structure has over 260 students
on its rolls, including a few challenged students. The building
now resonates with musical activity.
Encouraged by the response
from the public, the Sabha is contemplating starting classes shortly
in the mornings for housewives desirous of learning classical
vocal or Sugama Sngeeth, both in Carnatic and Hindustani styles.
If adequate number of students show interest, we may also consider
starting a Second batch from July 2005
